3 Women Will Suffer From
Heart Disease, the
#1 Killer of U.S. Women.
According to the American
Heart Association (AHA),
here are the facts:
-
Heart disease is the #1
killer of women and is
more deadly than all forms
of cancer combined.
-
Heart disease causes 1 in
3 women's death each year,
killing approximately one
woman every minute.
-
An estimated 43 million
women in the U.S. are
affected by heart disease.
90% of women have one or
more risk factors for
developing heart disease.
-
Since 1984, more women
than men have died each
year from heart disease.
-
The symptons of heart
disease can be different
in women and men, and are
often misunderstood by
women.
-
26% of women age 45 and
older who have an initial
recognized heart attack
die within a year compared
with 19% of men. In part
because women have heart
attacks at older ages than
men do, they're more
likely to die from them
within a few weeks.
-
Only 1 in 5 American women
believe that heart disease
is her greatest health
threat. Women
comprise only 24% of
participants in all
heart-related studies.

Misperceptions still exist
that heart disease is not a
real issue for women. CIMT
can help identify your risk
and clarify these
misperceptions. When
your doctor tells you to
"Know Your Numbers", such as
HDL, LDL, total cholesterol,
etc., make sure he or she
includes your CIMT values
within the equation.
